Adeleke Wins Polling Unit For PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has won in the polling unit of a senator, Ademola Adeleke.
The PDP defeated its main challenger, APC, in all the results in the polling unit.

Mr Adeleke is the senator representing Osun West Senatorial District and the candidate of the PDP at the last gubernatorial election in the state. He is still challenging the result of the election in court.

The senator voted at his PU9, Ward 2, Abegunde/Sagbe, Ede North Local Government Area in Osun State.

However, after the election, a PREMIUM TIMES journalist present at the scene gathered that money was shared after the vote was counted and favoured the opposition PDP.

One of the voters who simply identified herself as Suliyat who was spotted coming out from the building where the money was shared told this reporter that the money shared was for appreciation.

“They are giving money to people who voted. It is a form of appreciation to those who have been under the sun voting since morning”, she said.

As at the time of this report, PREMIUM TIMES observed some voters still hanging around the unit to get their cash.


When this reporter moved closer to the building where money is being shared to take clearer pictures, thugs chased him out.

INEC Gives First Assessment of Presidential, National Assembly Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is satisfied with the electoral process as the polls closed across the country for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
There have been reports of violence, ballot box destruction, delay in polls opening in many states, and card reader malfunction.

A national commissioner of the commission, Festus Okoye, gave INEC’s impression of the polls at a briefing of journalists in Abuja.

“As at this moment, INEC is generally satisfied with the process and the procedures for the conduct of this present election, notwithstanding the challenges relating to the commencement of polls in some polling units.”

Despite the delay or malfunctioning of the Smart Card Readers, the commission said accreditation for voting can only be done as stated in its guideline.

According to him, the regulations and guidelines of the commission view the refusal to use the SCR for the purposes of accreditation as negligent conduct.

“The smart card reader is mandatory, therefore no staff of the commission or any ad hoc staff of the commission is permitted in whatever guise to deliberately refuse to use the smart card reader for the conduct of the election” he said.

“And any of them that refuses to use the smart card reader or deliberately violated the use of the smart card reader is subject to prosecution in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the commission and the Electoral Act.”

On reports of violence which the commission confirmed to have received from some states, Mr Okoye said it had asked its resident electoral commissioners (RECs) to submit first hand reports.
“We have have asked the REC and officials of the commission on ground to submit their first hand reports in relation to some of these incidents.

“We are still receiving reports relating to incidents in some states of the federation but we have received reports on incidents in Akuku Toru and Bonny island of Rivers state,” he said.

On Rivers, INEC said so long as the commission could not deploy in these areas, the implication was that polls did not open in these areas and the commission would hold consultations with relevant authorities and with the RECs in relation to these areas.


He said INEC will announce when polls will take place in these areas especially as regards to the House of Representatives and Senatorial elections.

BREAKING: INEC Cancels Elections In Another Rivers Local Govt.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared no election took place in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State after violence engulfed the area.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State, Obo Effanga, confirmed the development to PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday evening.

Akuku-Toru is the second area in Rivers State where INEC says election did not take place. PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported how voting did take off in Bonny LGA, forcing INEC to cancel the exercise there.

For both areas, elections are to be rescheduled, INEC said.
In Akuku-Toru, “there was no election at all,” said Mr Effanga, speaking of a similar situation as Bonny.


Widespread shootings, with men in military uniform and hoodlums, sighted in multimedia materials, were reported in Akuku-Toru, especially Abonnema.

Abscondment: Zamfara REC debunks Fayose’s claims

A claim by former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, that the resident electoral commissioner in Zamfara State has declined to provide crucial election materials was not true, PREMIUM TIMES can report.

Equally false was Mr Fayose’s assertion that Asmau Maikudi has abandoned her duty to take refuge under Governor Abdulaziz Yari.

“Zamfara @inecnigeria REC, Dr Asmau has refused to release the Polling Units Result Sheets as well as Ward, LG and State Collation Result Sheets. She is said to be with the Gov of Zamfara presently.

“The INEC chairman is invited to look into this urgently,” Mr Fayose wrote on Twitter.
The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain did not back his tweet with any evidence.

PREMIUM TIMES confirmed that Mrs Maikudi was at her office in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, after a video call by WhatsApp a few minutes after Mr Fayose’s tweet.

She was with top security chiefs, including those from the State Security Service, the police and the Nigerian Immigration Service, as of 6:03 p.m. when the video call was placed.

Mr Fayose posted the message at 5:49 p.m.

Mrs Maikudi said there were no issues around ballot sheets in Zamfara State as alleged by Mr Fayose.

“We distributed all our sensitive materials at the Central Bank before all security agencies and party agents,” Mrs Maikudi said. “We never retrieved those items.”


“We have all the records and I am sure all the party agents would have their own copies of the records as well, so the governor should find something else to focus on,” the electoral chief said.

Buhari’s Minister Loses Polling Unit To PDP

The duo of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Ikechukwu, failed to deliver their polling units to President Muhammadu Buhari in the ongoing general elections.

The two prominent APC leaders in Enugu State voted at the Central Primary School, Eke, in Eke community of Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

There are four polling booths constituting two polling units at the primary school where the two leaders voted. The APC lost in the two polling units.

The polling booths are 001A, 001B, 002A and 002B, constituting Units 001 and 002.
The senatorial candidate of APC for Enugu West Senatorial District, who is battling to unseat Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwaugwu, also voted there.

For the presidential poll, while Mr Buhari polled 51 votes at polling unit 001, Mr Abubakar scored 125. At polling unit 002, Mr Buhari scored 52 votes while Mr Abubakar scored 105 votes.

The Presidential candidates of the YPP, Kingsley Moghalu and his AAC counterpart, Omoyele Sowore, both recorded one vote in the two polling units.

Meanwhile, Mr Ekweremadu defeated his main challenger, Mrs Ibekaku-Nwaugwu with 90 votes.

While Mr Ekweremadu scores 203 votes, Mrs Ibekaku-Nwaugwu scored 113 in the two units.

UPDATED: Atiku loses own polling unit to Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party at his polling unit.

Wild jubilation broke out following the announcement that Mr Buhari scored 186 votes to defeat Mr Abubakar who scored 167 votes.

The APC also cleared the results for senatorial and House of Representatives seats at the polling unit.


The ruling party scored 187 votes to PDP’s 120 votes in the senatorial poll. For the House, the APC scored 145 votes against PDP’s 121 votes.

#NigeriaDecides2019: Thugs Burn Votes In Okota, Lagos

We have received reports about how thugs stormed a polling unit in Okota, Lagos and burnt ballot papers/votes.

Meanwhile, Ten youths have been arrested from different locations in Bende local government area of Abia State. They were arrested over allegations of attempting to snatch ballot boxes.

According to Daily Trust, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from youths in the area who alleged that they were unknown and armed.

They were handed over to army personnel on duty close to the local government headquarters.

The senior army officer, in charge of the team, told newsmen in the state that investigation is ongoing regarding the story.

Jackie Chan To Shoot New Film In Dubai

Asian action superstar Jackie Chan will return to Dubai to film one of his latest movies with director Stanley Tong this month, the Dubai Film and TV Commission said.

Jamal Al Sharif, chairman of the commission, said on Twitter that “megastar Jackie Chan is retuning to film in Dubai for the second time after his smash-hit Kung Fu Yoga! The new film is titled Vanguard and is directed by Stanley Tong.’’

He said the film will be shot in and around Downtown Dubai, City Walk, other prominent locations and residential areas with support from Dubai Film and TV Commission.

“I would like to thank all those in the government and private sector that supported Kung Fu Yoga and will extend their support to the upcoming film,’’ Sharif was quoted by local newspaper Gulf News as saying.

Chan’s earlier movie `Kung Fu Yoga,’ an India-China co-production, marked the martial art actor’s first film shot in Dubai and the Middle East, when it was produced  in September to October 2015.

The film used Dubai locales such as the Atlantis, the Palm, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Shaikh Zayed Road, Dubai Marina, Business Bay and the open desert.
